Healing a headache or migraine with Reiki involves channelling life force energy to release tension, restore balance, and promote relaxation. Here’s a step-by-step guide for a self-Reiki treatment or for use on others:
Before You Begin
- Create a calm space: Low light, soft music, and comfortable surroundings help.
- Hydrate: Drink a glass of water before and after.
- Set an intention: “I intend to release all tension and allow healing energy to flow.”
Reiki Hand Positions for Headache/Migraine Relief
- Crown (Top of the Head)
- Place both hands gently on the crown.
- This soothes the nervous system and opens the crown chakra.
- Forehead (Third Eye)
- One hand on the forehead, the other behind the head (occipital area).
- This practice balances intuition and relieves mental overload.
- Temples
- Place fingers lightly on both temples.
- It aids in lessening the intense discomfort frequently encountered during migraines.
- Base of Skull
- Cup the base of the skull with both hands.
- This area connects to the brainstem, relieving nerve pressure.
- Neck and Shoulders
- Place hands on the back of the neck, then move to shoulders.
- Migraines often stem from tension here.
- Solar Plexus (Optional)
- Place hands just above the navel.
- Eases stress and anxiety contributing to headaches.
Add Reiki Symbols (for Level 2 Practitioners or higher)
- Cho Ku Rei (Power Symbol): For immediate pain relief. Use it on the temples and forehead.
- Sei He Ki (Mental/Emotional Symbol): Addresses emotional triggers. Use over the heart and third eye.
- Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (Distance Symbol): If the root cause is in the past or subconscious.
Time and Flow
- Spend about 3–5 minutes per position.
- Visualise golden or white light flowing through your hands.
- Breathe slowly and deeply throughout the session.
Aftercare
- Drink more water.
- Rest if possible.
- Journal your experience or emotional shifts.
