In some ways, managing your life and your home is similar to managing a business, where certain tasks are simple to delegate.
Sometimes we feel that we can’t possibly handle all of our responsibilities, which include work obligations, child care, and maintaining a home. We could feel hopelessly behind schedule at the end of each day due to feeling overwhelmed by it all. Nevertheless, despite how annoying this can sometimes be, these are the constraints that govern our life, and we owe it to ourselves to figure out how to make it work. We must first acknowledge that, like the leader of a huge firm, we cannot perform every task individually. Learning to share part of the load with others is the first step to sanity, whether that means hiring someone to clean our house or exchanging childcare responsibilities with another parent. Additionally, we might come across situations when we can adjust our expectations in a way that simplifies our life. For instance, it can be a bit excessive to expect ourselves to prepare a healthy, home-cooked supper every night after a long day of work, errands, or child care. We may occasionally allow ourselves to order food guilt-free.
Being at peace with our circumstances requires us to accept the changes that must be made in order for our lives to function.
At the end of the day, we have to accept what we cannot alter and come to grips with what we can. Sometimes we briefly fall behind on our plan because the laundry keeps piling up or a sick child requires more of our attention than normal. We gently accept our life as it is, letting go of perfectionism and embracing life as it is. By accepting this temporary condition of affairs and having faith in our capacity to get back on track when the time is right, we embrace our life as it is.
